A Reward for all of my Overtime Lately

by

I’ve been working ALOT lately, and finally I was able to do something with my money towards my debt. I was able to pay $1,000 towards my biggest credit card, credit card #2. It felt so good to complete the transaction.

Unfortunately, I will only be paying off part of the remaining $1200 from a previous balance transfer where the rate was 1.99%. So, I haven’t hit the big chunk subject to 16.9% sitting on that card.

Once I get my tax return completed and receive my refund, I decided that it ALL is going towards credit card #2. I like to refer to that card as the beast that needs to be tamed. And, I have a plan – which I will explain further at a later date when I have more time.

Right now I better get to work.

The Fate of Credit Card #5

by

I’ve thought about it, and I’ve decided to keep Credit Card #5. I’ve had it for about 8 years now and I’ve been reading that you shouldn’t close credit cards from years ago. They are actually helping your credit score because it shows your credit history for those years (as long as you’ve been a good payer and everything).

So what I am going to do is keep the card for certain purchases, ones that I would pay off in full every month. There is no way that I am letting that card have a high balance again. And like I’ve said before, I don’t want to ever pay them a finance charge again.

Later today I will be calling to see if I can reverse the late fee. I’ll give it a shot πŸ˜‰

What’s in my Wallet?

by

I was reading City Girl’s Financial Blog and she had a post telling about what is in her wallet. So, I thought I would share what’s in mine.

What’s in my Wallet?

– Driver’s License
– Son’s Health Insurance Card
– Receipts
– 2 Credit Cards
– 1 Blank Check for Emergency
– AAA Card
– 1/2 of a Mother/Daughter Charm
– A Quote I Hold Dear to Me

One thing you will rarely find in my wallet is money. I try to always use my cards or checks because I don’t like the fact that it is so easy to loose money, and it is harder to keep track of.

Who’s next? πŸ˜‰

Finding Lost Money!

by

Dateline NBC had a story on Sunday night about unclaimed property. It could be old paychecks, stock notes, etc. When no one claims them, they are turned over to the state.

Here’s the site to check out http://unclaimed.org

Pick a state and type in the name. Within seconds you can see if there are funds sitting there for you. Best of all, the search is FREE! Unfortunately, not all states have something.

I have run a search before, and I believe I have found funds that could have belonged to my Grandmother. I haven’t done anything about it – but I think I will now. You never know.

What to Do With Credit Card Applications

by

I used to just rip up all the credit card applications that I received in the mail. I do have a shredder – but I figured the companies would not consider a ripped up credit card application as being valid. That is, until I saw this website Torn-Up Credit Card.

I am going to shred those applications from now on.

Tentative Tax Refund Amount

by

After the setback with completing a balance transfer to the incorrect card, I needed some good news. So, I decided to do a very brief calcualtion of my tax refund. I knew I would be getting one – I just wasn’t sure how much.

I figured probably a couple grand, but I am pleased to say it looks more like $3500! Gosh, I love the Earned Income Credit!!

I probably won’t be writing tomorrow, because I will be getting everything finalized so I can get my returns efiled so I can get this cash to pay down some debt πŸ™‚

I Transferred the Wrong Balance!!

by

I can’t believe it. When I transferred the balance for my one card I also decided to transfer some money to another card. Well, I screwed up the transfer on the one card! I can’t believe I did it – I sent the balance transfer to my card that was already at a zero balance for the life of the transfer!

AHHHHH!!!

So, instead of being at zero percent – it is at 5.9%. As Homer Simpson would say….. DOH!

Not only that, but there is a huge credit on that card now. This has really put a little crimp in my plan to rid my debt. I have to go back to the drawing board and figure out what do to now. This weekend I will be posting my game plan.

It’s a setback – but with determination it can be overcome πŸ™‚
