Do you remember the run for your life boulder scene in one of the Indiana Jones movies? That is what I feel like trying to stay ahead of three teenage boys’ hunger on this trip! Does altitude increase appetites? WOW! I am feeding them everything I can find that is known to keep people full but it isn’t working…especially with increased activity! I feel like I’be feeding a newborn again! Enough griping! I could still be paying restaurant prices to feed them and that would be much worse!
It was a gorgeous day in the mountains. We drove to The Alpine Center which is above the tree line at about 12,500 feet elevation. I love watching the kids experience these moments! They learned so much and truly grasped the beauty surrounding us. We ended up needing a few items we forgot at home (allergy meds, sunscreen and such) so that was a $26 setback. Then there was another grocery stop @ $75. Grrrrrr…that technically went over the grocery budget but I did have another $150 set aside. I sure didn’t want to go into that on the second day of the trip but at least we had it available. Again, the eating…
Tomorrow we fish…and yes, with fishing inside the park being “catch and release” and other areas outside of the park being “catch and keep” I told Steve tomorrow we will make it a “eat what you kill ” menu! Lol! I’m kidding of course.
Additional $20 spent for a 7 day pass to the park and $15 to have hot chocolate in July in the 50 degree day at 12,500 feet. That was a very memorable moment for these Texans!
Born and raised in Texas. I’ve at least driven through every state in the US courtesy of a roadtrip loving Dad.
I’m single with two children and a good parenting relationship with their father.
I am a “life is just half full of funny” kinda gal. Humor is my saving grace and I am thankful for it every single day. I have a strong Catholic faith and am thankful for that foundation.
I read a lot for a living but still enjoy a good book. I love biographies but in recent years have found the need for fun fictional books–sadly, for a long time I just didn’t enjoy fiction!
I love live theatre of any kind–from local productions to Broadway.
I love to scrapbook and pride myself in my kids’ albums.
I love being a mom but also love my career. I’m blessed to have found a balance allowing me to be at everything my kids need and want me to be at–while also having a career.

I have two words for you: peanut butter!
Yes Jaye–I hear you but 2 of the 4 have peanut allergies! I tried sunflower seed butter mixed with apple butter and got nowhere. I think I waited too long to try substitutes for peanut butter b/c the kids now have such an aversion to anything remotely similar to peanut butter…that I may be fighting a losing battle. Thankfully the biggest eater (DS, almost age 14) does eat peanut butter and we are well stocked on it just for him!
The Alpine Center–isn’t that up on Trail Ridge Road? That’s some really pretty country. My wife and I drove that route one time on the way from Loveland to Steamboat Springs. Enjoy!
Yes Matt! Cool country indeed!
