All cleaning…no cooking

by

Well…I shouldn’t say NO cooking b/c Steve and I did eat all real food meals from home Saturday and Sunday…but there was no “prep cooking” for the week.  I am once again met with the usual dilemma of getting a LOT done in one area but then another area suffers.  Flylady is not soaring high here although things are under at least SOME control.  We spent our Sunday cleaning this house!  It was so much work and we are very, very tired but I must say that the house looks and smells great!   That poor new vacuum was really put to the test today.  It did a great job!

So, that’s my frustration today–feeling like I can excel in one area and really get things done and in order….but then another area gets nothing done.  I want to find more balance because I know how much easier life can be when we live by a schedule and plan.  I probably need to just give myself a break and remember this is truly the busiest time of life for us and I am doing a lot of things well.

On a fun note, I did visit the resale shop where I had taken some of DD’s clothing awhile back.  I was fighting a slight retail craving so I remembered the good advice I got here about going cheap if I MUST shop.  While  it certainly wasn’t a “must” I did get an email from the shop about a one day sale–40% off of all clothing and shoes.  This is primarily a kids’ clothing resale shop so I was more than surprised to find a very random Ann Taylor dress in my size!  Ah Ann Taylor!  Oh how I love Ann Taylor!  No surprise that she is my only retail debt (not patting myself on the back there…just pointing out that I knew not to do retail but that rule didn’t apply to my beloved Ann).  With the discount the dress was $7.20 and I had a store credit of $7.80.  That gave me another little shot in the arm…and not b/c of the dress itself although I do really like it…but instead because I didn’t spend any money on it!

An Ann Taylor dress for 7.20?!? WOW! No wonder you are excited. There clothes are usually quality and will last for awhile. I love how you found a way to work around your “no spending” plan. Good for you!!

I feel your pain…when I’m outside working in the yard, I’m thinking about all of the things that aren’t getting done inside. There’s only one of me, so I do the best I can.

A couple of summers ago I scored a great pair of Tommy Hilfiger capris at a second hand store. They still had the store tag still, new $79, mine for $6. Of course $79 is nuts, especially for summer pants I can only wear half the year at the most in my climate.

I have no interest in shopping at the best of times – it’s just an irritating necessity that occasionally has to be dealt with. Other than groceries and filling up the gas tank I rarely contribute to the retail economy. I often buy NO clothing for myself for a year or even two. I figure if nothing wore out, then nothing needs replacing, right? In anticipation that I might actually need to replace something this year, at Christmas I asked for gift cards to a store I like. This weekend I picked up a top, a skirt, socks and underwear. I went over the gift cards by 83 cents. Excellent. Last weekend I went to replace some of my son’s sport socks (the special ones that wick moisture/dry quickly). They were unexpectedly on sale which never happens with the brand he likes, plus the first 300 shoppers that day got a free pair of mens sport briefs. Love a free bonus that will actually get used! Those briefs were priced at $25 which was way more than I paid for the three pairs of socks. Sometimes the retail stars all just align perfectly.

Weird. I meant to put this under the Craigs List post. Clearly not enough coffee yet…

I know the feeling. Life seems to increase in speed the older we get. Finding time for the simple things can be hard. My wife and I always look for ways to simplify.

Well, keep in mind that with FlyLady the idea is to make progress, not be perfect!! And you can’t fix it all in one day! 🙂

I know the inclination. Life appears to increment in speed the more established we get. Discovering time for basic things can be hard. My better half and I generally search for approaches to improve.

So, what do you think ?
