While I do not follow the Dave Ramsey plan, I am a member of several Dave Ramsey Facebook groups. I found them very educational and sometimes, like this, super motivating!! This is a recent post to the group by another single mama. (At least I’m assuming she’s a single mom since the post is from a Single Parent Dave Ramsey Group. I don’t know her personally.)

I’ve seen more and more posts regarding donating plasma. Does anyone in the BAD community do this to earn extra cash? Personally, I’m pretty scared of needles. But I’m also pretty motivated to pay off my debt (and save money to purchase a car.) I would love to hear about your experiences with this.
I am now entering my “kid free” two weeks while Princess is at camp. (Yes, I know the twins are both still here, but with them being 20, in school full time and working part time, well, I’m still considering this my kid free time.) Once again, I have divided the house up to do a thorough purge, clean up and rearrangement over the next two weeks.
Last year, I hoped to really take a vacation during this two week period, but in all my growing, I now realize that the money I would have spent on that…well, that would have been a very bad decision. So, no vacation, no extra money spent. Go me. Another proud moment!

I donated plasma a few times in college, which was 15 years ago. The actual donation wasn’t so bad-they take your blood out, separate it, and return the red blood cells with IV fluid. I do remember that the entire process with paperwork and screening seemed to take forever.
I admire this woman’s pluck, but question whether these are the best side hustles. $450 a month for a daily paper route is only $15/day. Not including what you spend in gas to deliver newspapers. $200/month for Amazon shopping is also low, depending on the hours she’s putting in. If either are independent contractor positions, then there are tax considerations. Depending on her skills, just wondering if there may be better options.
Staycation!
Also, I don’t donate plasma or blood because it tires me badly. But, if I could donate more often and without the side effects of anemia, I would.
I donate plasma twice a week. I can make between 350- 400 a month depending on bonuses offered. It is usually between 1 1\2 to two hours each session. I usually only have a needle in for 45 minutes. The rest is check in to make sure you are healthy enough to donate that day and waiting for your turn. I am a sahm. The only time you will be there longer than that is your first visit where the take all your info and give you a physical. Maybe 4 hours. You can only go twice a week with at least a day between donations. That is your set schedule. I go Tuesday and Friday so the very soonest i can go again is the next Tuesday. I make 30 for the first visit and 50 for the second. My location. Does a special for new donors. $50 per time for the first 5 times. They load it on a debit card. Just remember to have a good meal before you donate and drink lots of water.
This is excellent information, Katy. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am seriously considering giving this a try. That extra money would be handy in my debt pay off journey!
