Allergies

by

I think I once shared that I spent a lot of money each month on Claritin D.  I was taking WAY too much of that medicine to combat wonderul Texas allergens.  At $1 per pill, it was adding up.  And that’s not even taking into consideration the time it took to go to the pharmacy, show ID, and get the meds.  So, I finally got around to getting a prescription for generic Flonase nasal spray.  WOW!  What a difference!  I’m 30 days in at this point and Claritin is a thing of my past.  A generic 30-day supply of Flonase costs me $5 so I’m saving $25 per month!  As I used the medicine this morning and then packed my gym bag, I thought I’d share that it is a wash! Save $25 on the medicine, spend $25 at the gym.  AND I feel better without all of that sudafed in my system and I’m getting healthier at the gym!

I’m literally chuckling out loud as I type this thinking of those readers who “admire” my “justification” skills.  🙂

Happy Friday!

As a fellow Texan (Fort Worth) and allergy sufferer, I’ve been taking Flonase for several years. I also still take a generic allergy med of some kind daily. Very much worth the money.

My son was going through the same thing – taking claritin daily. His doctor put him on Flonase, and he hasn’t had to use any claritin ever since.

As a long time allergy sufferer, I have realized that, whenever I use one of type of medicine for a very long time, it becomes less effective. I do not know if this is a fact or something I imagine but, changing the medicine does help me.

I am the same way. I’ve had sinus problems for years and had sinus surgery and am getting allergy shots.

I’ve had to alternate between the generic versions of Claritin, Zyrtec and Allegra for the last few years. I also use a nasal spray every other day.

You know, you come across as having a really weird attitude. Seems to me if you dedcide to be a blogger, you better get used to comments that you may not like. I started to follow this blog looking for debt reduction support. I tolerated the “real” food stuff, the expensive thrift store shopping, and all the rest of the non-debt-reduction blather. But your snide commnts about your readers …. I have had enough. Chuckle away. Unsubscribing.

Keep up the good work Claire. Soon this divorce will be behind you and you have nothing but good things coming your way!

You are the most inconsiderate, snide, rude, condescending blogger that I have ever come across. The way you talk about your readers is astonishing!

I love how you post this as anonymous. And if you don’t like it, then don’t read it. Some of us actually get Claire’s humor.

Sheesh, some reading comprehension is in order. Claire is not laughing at her READERS. She is recognizing her own admitted convoluted logic (in this case further justifying her gym membership by her Claritin savings), and laughing about the fact that she knows she will get hammered by the subset of her readers that disagree with her about those rationalizations.

But it’s not a personal attack on a reader to disagree with their disagreement, right?

To be honest, I relate to this. I was spending a small fortune on an artillery of medicines to combat my allergies. I discovered the neti pot and now I take care of it for just pennies.

I have to echo the comment about the neti pot. I actually have a NeilMed which is more like a squeeze bottle that I find easier to use. I turned one of my co-workers on to the neti pot and she hasn’t been out sick w/a sinus infection since she started using it.

So, what do you think ?
