It’s our last night in Venice and I’m so sad to leave. I don’t care what anyone says about this city being dirty, I absolutely love it here. We were only here for a day and a half and we are on our way to Florence tomorrow.
On our second to last night in Ireland, we stayed in a particularly awful hostel. It was filthy and the windowless bathroom lights didn’t work so you had to leave the door open. People saw a lot more of me than I’d like. At 4:45am someone set the fire alarm off. The fire department arrived 20 minutes later and one of the fire fighters asked us if we were taking a carriage ride in the morning. We were scheduled to take the ride but I was confused as to why a firefighter knew or cared. He shined his flashlight in my husbands face and said, “You better be there”. A few hours later, we couldn’t help but laugh as the same firefighter showed up driving a carriage to give us a ride around the tiny town – so tiny the firefighters are the horsemen, the butchers, and the bartenders. Gotta love them!

I really like your blog – it’s helpful and hilarious! I also hope you’re having a wonderful time in Europe. Florence was my favorite city in Italy when I was there in 2005. If I may suggest, go see the David first thing in the morning before the crowds get huge. We were there around this time of year and the line for the museum was wrapped around the building.
However, we decided to get there before the doors even opened, and we were first in line. Seeing the David in that serenity in the beautiful morning light…it is an experience I will never forget and still get a little misty thinking about. For that reason, I believe it is well worth the money you will spend on the entrance fee.

I love Venice. I was in Italy three different times to set up new ships for my company and managed to get to Venice about every two weeks. All the advertising such as that at the Bridge of Sighs I’ve heard about recently makes me sad.
I’m glad you got the opportunity to visit Italy. That country can really get a hold on your heart.

My first jaunt after arriving in lovely Ireland, I was approached by a wee little man who had definitely had too much to drink – did I mention it was 9.30 in the morning? He asked if I’d give him some change for a song. When he realized I was American he tipped his hat and just as he said to me, I’ll say to you, “Welcome to Ireland!”
