More Good News…And Some Bad News

by

What a week. We’ve had some good news and some bad news:

Good News

  • Our health insurance bill is now due monthly ($400) instead of once every two months ($800).
  • I won a $50 Amazon gift certificate.
  • My son won a prize from his school and he was thrilled!
  • Our fridge came back from the dead! We have been living with using a cooler for cold items. At first it was neat, but lately it has become a pain. I’m embarassed to say that I could not find the receipt so we decided we would call out a repairman anyways. Of course, I had to clean it real nice before then and when I was done I decided to plug it back in for giggles. Well, wouldn’t you know it…it’s working just fine. I have a feeling some ice was blocking the flow from the freezer to the fridge section so that’s why the fridge part wasn’t cold.

Bad News

  • My husband came down with a severe case of strep throat and went to the doctors on Friday. The doctor’s exact words, “Your throat looks like crap!” With our copays the total bill (including medicine) came to about $35.
  • This morning I woke up with a sore throat. I’m doing every home remedy that I can think of to try to ward off the strep. We’ll see tomorrow how I feel.

Overall, it has been a great week. Tomorrow I will be reviewing our finances to see if we can pay any more towards our debt right now. I pretty much figured we couldn’t, because we usually have an $800 health insurance payment due at the end of the month. But with it being billed monthly now, we might as well use some of that money I have been holding on to and put it towards our debt right now πŸ˜‰

As a nurse, I have to warn you, Strep is REALLY contagious. Perhaps, if the sore throat continues for 3 days (home remedies won’t treat Strep), you can get them to go ahead and prescribe the antibiotic without a culture or Dr’s visit since it’d be pretty obvious what you have. Also either throw away or run toothbrushes through the dishwasher or boiling water. Gotta kill that bacteria!

Hi JT – thanks for the insight! This morning it does hurt worse. Of course, it’s Sunday and the only way to get to the doctor is by going to the ER πŸ™ It still isn’t very painful, but I’m only on the second day. My husband got REALLY bad on his third day.

It would be great if they would prescribe the antibiotic without a visit. For us, it’s pretty obvious what I’m getting. We’ll have to call the doctor he visited and see. So far, my son has been okay.

Basically, we’ve been “blowing kisses” ever since my husband first started showing signs.

oh no! i’ll be crossing my fingers that you don’t get strep. being sick is no fun. i can’t believe your debt is so small – you’re in the 4 digits now. congrats!

Yea, Strep’s a bear! Luckily it’s usually easy to treat! Good luck with the doc!

I think itÒ€ℒs time to replace the toothbrushes. Have you tried gargling salt water? Sore throat is never a good experience and something that can pass and linger for quite some time.

Aw, hope you aren’t sick! Just saw this online and thought you’d be interested – not sure how they calculate it, but you’re worth a lot!

I had similar trouble with my fridge, which is not even 3 years old. It doesn’t have to be ice – on mine even pushing some boxes or a bag of frozen veggies (it was broccoli medley) too far back by that air intake messes up the fridge part. It’s right on the “floor” of the freezer and very easy to block.

I avoid the repairman at all costs so in desperation I dug out the manual. The answer was buried way at the back in some troubleshooting chart.

I guess it would have been more helpful if I had remembered that back when yours broke.

A quick update on my health. I ended up going to the ER. They may or may not bill it as a clinic visit. They don’t tell you until it’s bill time. My husband was so bad on the third day that I figured I better go since Sunday was my second day and I already was feeling pretty bad. They didn’t do a strep test, but both of my ears were infected and they prescribed antibiotics. I don’t feel much better today so we’ll see how I feel tomorrow. My son is also following us and he’ll be going to the doctor’s tomorrow. What a nasty bug.

DC Smith – haha, we had some broccoli in our freezer that I had hopes of getting everyone to eat but it sat in there for ages. It finally was tossed when things went haywire. Can’t blame our broccoli though, since it was on the door.

Renee – I’ll take that in cash, please πŸ™‚

    My blog is worth $220,170.60.
How much is your blog worth?

    Wouldn’t that be something!

Eeww…. That stinks that you are sick and had to go to the hospital. But, on the bright side, you have health insurance!! I think without it your husbands visit to the doctor’s office would have cost around $100 – much worse than $35! And I’m sure it’s a similar thing with the ER cost.

I hope you’re all feeling much better soon!

So, what do you think ?
