It’s time for the monthly Bump Update…

March 3rd:

Sonogram pics could not be any clearer – it’s a boy. Since discovering this information, I find I am far less gentle with my food choices. When I thought it was a girl, I ate fruits and veggies. Baby boy now gets fruits and veggies… and spicy jalapeño burgers. It’s a boy. He can take it like a man.

March 4th:

I inform baby boy that waking hours are between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., NOT 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Baby spends the next 24 hours kicking incessantly proving his complete control of the situation.

March 7th:

My husband said I’m the least emotional pregnant person he’s ever met… after I tackled him to the floor, choked him until he couldn’t breathe, and demanded he say it.

March 10th:

I thought by my having a baby, mom would finally stop asking me to have one – and she did.

Now she just asks when I’m planning to have another.

March 15th:

Thought about writing a press release:

Dear mothers (and you know which ones you are): You are not in a competition for the gold metal in the world’s most difficult pregnancy. I’m sorry your pregnancy/delivery/husband was awful. Mine, thus far, has been pretty awesome and I’d like to stay in my dream world that the rest will be the same. Don’t feel the need to share the same stories over… and over… and over again. I didn’t want to hear it the first time.

March 19th:

The week before every doctor’s appointment, I bump up my usual workout routine by walking a little further or exercising a little longer each day. Every time I see the nurse with her clipboard standing near the scale, I feel like I’m weighing in for The Biggest Loser… in reverse.

March 24th:

Concerned that, at nearly 6 months, I still don’t need maternity clothes. Is this baby even growing?

March 25th:

Suddenly need maternity clothes. Belly popped like a turkey timer.

  1. Claire responded:

    Yay! Yay! Great post! Congratulations!!!!

  2. Nicole responded:

    Congratulations! Funny post :)

I have two little boys. They’re wonderful :) I keep hearing this from everyone…stick with boys (as if you have a choice!)…girls are little drama queens from the time they come out.

There’s a baby in there? Really? I wish I looked like that when I was 6 months along with either boy!!! Heck, I wish I looked like that when I wasn’t pregnant! :)

  3. Becca responded:

The same thing happened to my sister. She is really tiny like you, so she was wearing her normal clothes up until somewhere between her 5th and 6th month, and then her baby seemed to appear out of nowhere. Just remember to apply lots of lotion!

    Congrats on your baby boy!

  4. Teresa responded:

Congrats on the boy, I have 4 girls and 1 boy. Never wanted a boy and cried when I found out it was one, but now love him more than I ever thought possible!! Love your bump, that’s what I look like on about day 6 into a pregnancy, but so happy for you!

  5. Vicki responded:

I am so jealous! When I was 6 months, I was HUGE! Love the story about the kicking! My daughter did not understand the awake hours as well. She would kick me all night.

  6. Makky's Mom responded:

Love your bump updates! Congrat’s on the boy. My first was a boy too, followed by 2 girls. The next hurdle for you will be picking a name!

And the tummy bump is starting to grow! Don’t worry about having a small baby bump – if your doctor/midwife isn’t worried, then all’s fine! We all look different when pregnant.

  7. Susan responded:

Thanks for commenting on all the people wanting to tell you how horrible pregnancy and delivery were for them. I personally had a smoothe pregnancy and an easy birth – plus he has grown up to be a wonderful human being! Enjoy your experience – it is your baby to enjoy!

However, don’t be fooled into thinking raising boys is easier than raising girls. All kids are difficult to raise at times and all that I have met cost a lot of money! Disagree and still think boys are easier…then why are our prisons full of mothers’ sons?

  8. Alison responded:

I was a lot like you with my first pregnancy, it took a very long time for me to start showing. I thought it was so cool that I was able to wear so much of my regular clothes through much of my pregnancy. But then after the baby was born, I just realized that those clothes had been stretched out with my growing belly and I could no longer wear them! Be careful what clothes you keep wearing – they just may end up as permanent maternity clothes.
