I didn’t plan on doing a weekly update about the ‘No Dining Out’ policy but this week was too weird to keep to myself.

I drove past Taco Bell last night, my ‘go to’ fast food joint, and thought, “I can’t wait to make spicy enchiladas for dinner tonight!!”

A few minutes later as I sat at a red light, it hit me…

I wasn’t tempted to stop and was actually *gasp* excited to make my own meal.

What is happening to my brain!?!?

Some nice perks of the no dining out policy:

Clothes fit VERY nicely and…
I’m UNDER budget!!

YES!!

You’ve inspired me. I’ve managed to go about 4 days without eating out. That’s HUGE (for me) Now, if I can make it through the weekend…the planning ahead part always gets me. I’m not good at that!

Yay for you! That’s such a GREAT feeling!

I love cooking at home now (only started cooking six years ago)and it’s fun to make something just as good, if not better tasting, than what you can get at a restaurant! Plus, I know what’s in it!

P.S. I can’t remember the last time I ate out.

WTG! Beks I actually have been inspired as well an only bought supper once this week while at work. I took my lunch Wed, and lat night hubby fixed manwich when he got home tonight however the kids and I will dine out but we are going to a local festival and we only get these tenderloins once a year so I indulge myself. Keep up the great work I am like Shannon tho the planning ahead part trips me up too all the time. Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. As no dining out was the genesis of my starting a blog (I didn’t eat out for 40 days), I can relate. And I think I need to do it again.

That is awesome! I think you’ll find, as we did, what we make at home is much better tasting and less deadly than what we normally get eating out.

I agree with all the posters here…Taco Bell is also MY go to place…but…. although it is relatively inexpensive compared to others like it, I much prefer going to the grocery store and getting a package of whole wheat pita fajitas, a can of ff refried or black beans and some cheese and salsa. I can make fajitas for an army for the price of one trip to Taco Bell.

Beks, Your enthusiasm is contagious. I read it every day because it just makes me smile. I guess that makes me a weirdo for getting joy from your misfortune. I really think your perceived misfortune will end up being your glory.

On another note, I live in the middle of nowhere so I have had to become a good note out of necessity. Maybe you will too. It is quite relaxing.

Oh Dear I can’t type. I became a good cook and not a good note because that is just weird. Again with the weird :)

Cooking is addictive and there is no end to how crazy you can take it. We normally cook at home, but I was making cole slaw (one of our diet staples (don’t mock it, we haven’t lost this much weight, ever before)) and realized I forgot to buy healthy mayo (no soy bean oil) when I was out at the health food store. No problem. Online instructions for mayo, one egg and a cup of olive oil later (well and a LOT of whisking) we had the most lucious mayo you’ve ever had. My slow cooker army sized container of bake beans were awesome too.

Cooking at home is the bomb. Welcome to the real eaters anonymous club, Beks.

Well, the clothes fit very nicely until you start getting excited about baking your own treats.

You do save a lot of money on eating at home, and a lot of the junk you eat out just isn’t worth the price.

It is still cheaper where you live, than here, on the top of the Burger index: http://www.economist.com/node/16646178?story_id=16646178
