OK, so I’m about 5 days too late but I failed to clarify exactly WHERE to get your credit report.
Your free credit report can only be obtained through www.annualcreditreport.com
If you are interested in obtaining your credit score, use the www.annualcreditreport.com site as well. Credit scores on this site run about $6 – $9.
If you use the direct website for the credit reporting agency, the cost of your score will be more than twice as much.

Just make sure that what you’re paying for is the FICO score! They may offer a “credit score” but unless it’s listed as the FICO one, it will be based on a different scale, and not the number that most people are looking for. Funny I just posted about this myself (”buyer beware”)!
D’Oh! I paid for a score last year and it was not the FICO! So now I’m uber-careful.

I’m not taking out any major loans for the time being. The only reason I keep track of my “score” is just for a general idea of how I am doing. Since my real score doesn’t matter, I am happy with a FAKO score… and I just use the one at credit karma and consider it good enough.
I know it’s not the real thing. But it’s free.

I use creditkarma.com to get my credit score. It tracks your score for free. I’ve been using it for about a year now and have never paid a cent. I know that I sound like an ad for the site but it’s the best *free* way to check your score.
If anyone knows of others, or has used credit karma before, let me know!

Some of the free credit report sites are not free so be careful using your credit card to check your credit.
