Sometimes I get so stressed and yesterday was one of those days. When I get stressed, I start getting negative. I could feel that I was going to have one of those down and out days, maybe even a few days.
So, I asked what you would wish for trying to get a little perspective on things. I found your replies very interesting and here are a few (to read them all, click here).
Sandy wished for “Good health and happiness for my children” and that was echoed by Bianca.
Kristina wished “To end all forms of violence worldwide, including sexual assault and rape, domestic violence, trafficking of women, war, starving, and all other violence.”
Kim wished “To be satisfied with the present, excited about the future and reconciled with the past.”
D wished for “Peace in my home, family and world. The rest will work out then.”
Boomie wished “…that more people would concentrate on their blessings and what they DO have, rather on what they DON’T have. It makes all the difference.”
Thank you to everyone that replied. Your wishes helped a lot and I think all of us can learn something from it because if you are human you are bound to have bad days like I had yesterday. The key is to not let them get you down for too long and a way to do that is to regain the perspective on your life.
Personally, I like reading things that make me think and that’s what your answers did. It made me think of what I value and want I want out of my life. It also set me in my place and indeed realize that my problems are very minor compared to others. It also made me realize that all the while during my rough day, I was thinking on the negatives instead of thinking of the positives. I was making matters worse!
Right now, I am feeling very fortunate for what I do have. Sure I have a lot of debt and sure I am smack dab in pretty stressful situations at the moment. But I have a whole lot more.

Wow. I think what you’ve got is a really nice community here. Really nice. That goes a long way.

My husband had a very rough couple of days recently–all related to concern about money, work, mortgage, etc. Then yesterday we heard that my 3 year old nephew’s teacher has serious concens about his social abilities and interaction. Suddenly, my sister is panicked about Asberger’s syndrome and autism. Boy, did that put everything in perspective, and in very short order. We have three healthy children and a very happy marraige. If we had to choose between that and absolute financial security, we’d pick the happy/healthy route hands down.
I didn’t write in yesterday, but thought about your question a lot. I think the answer I finally came up with was that I’d like to enjoy and be satisfied with what we have and who we are–because we do have an awful lot–and not keep wishing for more.
I hope you have a better day today!

I think it’s great that in the middle of dealing with so much you can give the people who read your blog such an uplifting post. That sounds so cheesy. I appreciate your optimism; it helps me be optimistic.

Yes, perspective is a good thing.
Who can count how many times we drop the ball and needed a jolt of perspective?
Another thing that helps is taking a break and doing something that can calm the soul.

dear bloggingaway debt,
yes, perspective is a good thing. i’ve been so down too lately about finances and the daily grind of life. anyways, i recommend having a day of calm quiet if possible. also it’s always good to read a wonderful book or see a well made movie to give me a sense of appreciation either for the artform and/or for how many different ways there are to live in this world. i recently read Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell. Talk about perspective. It made me feel like a lady of leisure who eats bon bons all day. It was a fascinating and incredibly well written book about being poor in Europe in the 1930s. I highly recommend it. And I assure you it will give you perspective.

In NLP it’s called reframing – in otherwords look at things in a different way and it can make a whole heap of difference to the way you feel now!
Great post!
