Should a Debt Blogger Pay For Hosting?

by

Thank you everyone for your patience lately with my move off of Blogspot. Getting my own hosting feels nice because I can easily back-up my blog and I also have so many options to bring my blog to life. I feel like I can pack more great resources into my blog and take it to the next level.

One of the things I’ve grappled with is why should I pay for hosting when I had it for free with Blogspot. In a way, I feel like going to paid hosting diminished my efforts a little, so I really thought about it before doing it. For the reader, do I seem more credible when I was on free hosting?

I’ve said that my income from this blog will go towards debt and it will. With just recently making enough for my first check from an advertiser soon, I felt it would be alright to use that money for a year of hosting. Thinking ahead, the particular company hosting my blog, Dreamhost, has a referral program and if a few people sign up through me I will have enough to support another year of hosting. If things work out well, I hope to not have to pay out of my pocket for hosting and the blog will pay for itself, so to speak. Note, if you do sign up for your own hosting through me, make sure you use code GIVEME50 to save $50.

I dunno, call me weird, but I just felt like I needed to get that off my chest. In a way I do feel bad for not using the money towards debt but at the same time, I feel like I can do and say so much more with my own hosted blog.

What do you think? Is obtaining your own website hosting a justifiable expense for a debt blogger?

My Mind is Made Up…My Grocery Bill is Going Down…

by

My groceries are running around $400/month. Add on to that an additional $140/month for dining and that is $540/month for a family of three (2 adults and a four year old). One thing to note is I only include food and drink with my groceries. Anything such as toilet paper and paper towels I put under household.

To me, the amount we are spending is just too high.  I know we can get it down farther, but I needed some tips.

Well, I was cruising the forum at Saving Advice and I came across a great thread! It was started by a member that was trying to get her grocery bill down.

Here’s just a few things I learned…check the price of milk at gas stations because it may be cheaper, check out prices at local organic stores and don’t go back into a store to get something that you forgot.  You are very likely to come out with more than you went in for.  Just tough it out until your next trip if you can.

If you are trying to save on your groceries, I highly suggest checking out the thread here. In fact, cruise around the boards a little. There’s some great info over there.

I’m pumped…I’m making a list…my grocery bill is going down 🙂
