Updates…Updates…Updates….

by

Talk about a crazy week with a happy ending!

I have a few updates so I am going to list them in one post.

Kitties

We had a stray kitty who decided to live in our garage this winter and we ended up taking her in because she was looking a little plump. A little while later one kitty turned into five kitties. I’m happy to report that all of the kitties and the momma now have new homes. I was even given an update on the momma kitty because the person who took her stopped by my garage sale. She is doing wonderful and everyone loves her. That made me so happy to hear because she was a good cat. I hope I get updates on the kittens as well.

We tried a few different ways of advertising free kitties and I went in the following order:

  • Posted an ad online – one kitten found a home this way
  • Put up flyers in local stores – the flyer found the momma her home (I put pictures of everyone on it)
  • Placed an ad in the paper – the remaining three kittens found homes in only two days.

By far, the paper brought the most calls which was good because one kitten came back after two days. The woman said the kitten wasn’t getting along with her other cats. Luckily, so many other people called that I was able to contact someone else who didn’t have any cats. I think it probably worked out best for the kitty in the end because she was the sweetheart of the bunch and loves a lot of attention. She was my favorite kitten because she was so shy.

Garage Sale

I had another garage sale this weekend and we made $166 this time. Not too bad for being open from around 8 to 11:30. We had to close up shop early because of rain šŸ™ We still have so much left so today I went through and pulled some things to go to St. Vincent de Paul (mostly clothes and a few household things). The remaining items we will try to sell one last time maybe next month.

By thinning what we had (which was A LOT) we can display everything better and hopefully will sell more. Even though we had more tables this time, we still didn’t have enough room for everything. We’ll also have less to haul outside which will be nice. There is just so much stuff that it still took hours to set it all up.

Third time will hopefully be the charm and then that’s it. No more garage sales and it will be time to possibly dive into eBay selling or to give the rest of it all to St. Vincent de Paul.

Debt

I’ll write a longer post about it, but I paid an extra $500 towards our debt a few days ago. Yay! I’ll be updating our debt balance shortly.

Weight

I couldn’t believe it, but I lost 10 lbs in the last two weeks. Running around getting ready for our garage sale and taking care of home items has kept me very active. I’m happy I’m getting things done and I ended up losing weight. Bonus!

Blogging Notes

This week, I have another interesting guest post to share and then things will return to normal around here. I’ll share some thoughts on garage sales and I’ll share how I’ve been feeling about my debt lately. I have a lot of catching up to do! šŸ˜‰

Buying an Elephant, 9 Words Women Use and a Fan Who May Owe a Whole Lotta Money

by

As far as I know, tomorrow is a “go” to have another garage sale. The weather looks like it will be good in the morning (late afternoon looks like rain) so we are going to go for it. I plan on waking up super early and we are going to be open for 8 a.m. this time. I’m setting two alarm clocks to make sure I get up at 5:30 a.m.

We are definitely more prepared this time and we have more tables lined up. I’m excited to get rid of more stuff and make some money! We could use it after some home repairs we’ve had to pay for lately.

Now, onto some articles I enjoyed this week:

Golbguru has an interesting post about An Elephant For A Dollar Down And Easy Weekly Payments.

Dedicated shares 9 Words Women Use. Not exactly personal finance related, but spot-on and funny!

Flexo explains how the fan who caught Barry Bond’s 756th home run ball may owe $210,000. Ouch.

Enjoy!
