Hope’s Weekly Budget – Week of Sept 24

by

I use an Excel spreadsheet to track my income and expenses. I have it set up all the way through July, 2018 to keep me looking toward the future. I thought I might post every week’s budgeted items, the Friday before.  This will help keep me accountable, and give you a real life view into my financial life to advise and guide me on.

This coming week’s items are pretty self explanatory. I am at the end of my monthly grocery budget, have a few debt payment’s scheduled, the kids’ weekly allowance and our family gym monthly fee.

Groceries25-Sep-17-50
Debt Payment25-Sep-17-100
Auto-Gas26-Sep-17-35
Debt Payment26-Sep-17-100
Gym28-Sep-17-50
1099 Income29-Sep-17850
Allowance29-Sep-17-80
Debt Payment29-Sep-17-100

The 1099 income is from one of my regular income sources, I’ve been part time with this particular company going on 2 years now. It is the one I got right after I lost my full time income. It has steadily grown and I now work 25 hours a week, every week. I enjoy the work, I love my ‘bosses’ and it’s one of those jobs I can do anytime, anywhere while at the same time being flexible when I need some time away.

Today I am spending the day with my siblings. All four of them flew to Georgia with my mom for a few days. It’s the first time we’ve seen them since last Christmas when we went to Texas and the first time we’ve all been in Georgia in several years.

Let me know your thoughts on my Friday Budget posts?

I love the idea, but would like a better sense of your bigger picture. What is your overall budget and debts? That would make these weekly budgets a much more useful tool.

Yes very true. This isn’t very helpful because you don’t know what’s really coming in or going out and where….

Really glad to see hope is on her feet again.

I am working on a debt update. Will get it up this weekend, along with a monthly budget as it stands right now.

I think a weekly update is a great idea. One thing that would be interesting/ helpful to understand is a little more detail on the various “debt repayments”, like what they are toward and the remaining balance if possible.

I swear by my cash flow model and also project it out six months in advance. It helps me ensure I will have the cash for irregular expenses and challenges me to come in under my budget.

I think posting every week would be helpful as well as updating budget vs actual for the previous week.

Thanks. The cash flow out so far really helps me stay on track, especially when gymnastics season (November thru April) is running and we have alot of addition costs (meet fees, travel, food, etc.) that we don’t think about the rest of the year.

I would like a weekly budget post and also would think it would be a good idea if we knew more about your general debt situation.

    How much is still left?
    What has been paid off?

    Hope,

What is your debt? Do you have debt? I don’t think we have gotten an answer to that question in over a year so it makes it hard for posts like this to be useful.

i think if you did a current situation update (all debt, savings etc) then this would be really useful.

Right now, it’s hard to tell if you are trying to pay off debt, attempting to save, building retirement or any of the rest of that

You’re doing great in tracking your expenses! I must also say you’re lucky with your job as it promotes work-life balance.

So, what do you think ?
