Cheap Lemonade

by

We went over to a friend’s house to go swimming in their pool this past weekend. My girlfriend ran inside for a moment and emerged with the BEST lemonade ever! I asked her if it was store-bought or homemade because it was so dang good!

Imagine my surprise when she said it’s made with bottled lemon juice!!! But not just any old lemon juice – Costco does it again with some of the best organic lemon juice I’ve ever tasted! And because I’m lucky to have great friends (and I think it comes in two-packs at Costco), my friend gave me an entire bottle of lemon juice to take home for ourselves! I’ve been a lemonade-making machine since then! I even did one batch of raspberry lemonade (by muddling and then straining the raspberry seeds out). FREAKING DELISH!

I’ve used this simple recipe for homemade lemonade (though I use a little less sugar than recommended). The real star of the show, though, is Costco’s bottled lemon juice!

I have to admit that I don’t know the exact cost given that the bottle of lemon juice was a gift, but I’d be willing to bet that on a price-per-pitcher of lemonade, it’s GOT to be cheaper to make homemade than to buy Simply Lemonade (which would typically be my go-to).

You guys have got to check this stuff out! Delicious!

What’s your favorite Costco find? How do you save money on beverages? I’m a big “beverage” person – I like tea, lemonade, fizzy waters, an occasional Diet Dr. Pepper, etc. But typically beverages are so pricey! Do you make your own or find ways to cut costs? I’ll also say as a side note that I’ve made homemade ginger ale using this recipe, and it’s also incredible!!!

Our Costco sells that lemon juice for around $7 dollars for two bottles. But it is the BEST ever.

Hey, that’s a good deal considering I was able to make several (4??) batches of lemonade from a single bottle! If it’s $7/2-pack, that’s $3.50/bottle. If I get 4 pitchers of lemonade per bottle then that’s under $1 per pitcher of lemonade! Can’t beat that for all natural, organic lemonade!!!

Oh man! We shop at Costco every week and have continually, consistently looked for that precise lemon juice and it’s been over a year since they stocked it in our local stores. Fingers and toes crossed it returns – and we’ll be stocking up.

That’s the one thing about Costco that’s a big bummer. You never know when they’ll have your favorite items in stock. Some stuff is constant (TP, kirkland water), but some other items get rotated through. I used to love buying fruit cups from them – perfect for the girls’ lunches! I haven’t seen them now in awhile. : (

I make sun tea, no sweetener. I kicked my diet soda habit over a year ago and still notice it in the grocery bill.

You can ask the manager of your Costco about ordering products. Or at least if there’s another Costco nearby that has the product you’re looking for. You might be able to get it shipped to your home.

Isn’t her work conference this week? Maybe that is why there is no post today.

I had a frozen lemonade from Panera on Friday and thought that this would be perfect to make them at home – but I didn’t make it to Costco this weekend… 🙁

I let my Costco membership lapse, but keep finding reasons to renew it. This one might be the one that pushes me over the edge!

I never even considered making ginger ale, but it makes total sense. I love it for tits stomach settling properties and I bet a freshly made batch would be excellent for that. Thanks for the tips!

So, what do you think ?
