My husband has been in school since we married… well, even before we married… and we will have been married 7 years this fall. It’s only been a few weeks since he graduated and I’m really enjoying having him around. It still feels a bit weird to have him home every night and not in school, studying, or working on a project.
He was considering going back to school this fall to get a few more certificates and licenses that would allow him to take on larger side projects, and in turn, make us more money. While beach camping, lulled by the relaxing waves, we talked about his desire to continue on with his education. I admire him for always looking out for us as a family and keeping our finances afloat but I asked for a small break. Yes, I understand that my decision to request a delay in pursuing a specific license will have an immediate impact on our finances but, we’ve been hanging on without it for this long, we can hang on a few more months.
He’s going back…just not right now.
Best decision for our finances? Not a chance.
Best decision for our family? I think so.
Hubby, Baby Boy, and I went to spend the day at my parent’s house for Labor Day. My sister and her family came over as well as my sister-in-law and her kiddos (her husband/my brother has been shipped out to fight another fire). There is always something so relaxing about the craziness of that house. We all seem to yell *cough* talk over one another while pots and pans bang in the kitchen as dinner is being prepared. We spent a good portion of the meal prep talking about the free workout, the Butt Bible, available on our cable network. All of us are too frugal to have gym memberships so we compare notes on any free workouts. Considering the fact that all us girls could hardly walk without wincing in pain, we gave it a thumbs up.
After dinner and dishes were done, gramps and I watched Keeping Up with the Kardashians. OK, so maybe he wasn’t watching. He was chatting about his recent trip to visit our family in Washington state. Hmmm. Great idea for a future cheap vacation?
Before leaving, I robbed grandma of all her garden grown veggies and a loaf of fresh baked zucchini bread. One less trip to the grocery store!
I’m considering looking for a new job. But one of the biggest things that holds me back is healthcare – and sadly, healthcare is the reason some of my co-workers stay as well. My total cost for healthcare, regardless of how many children I have, will be $80 each month when I hit my milestone this year.
Obviously, if I can get a higher salary, it will offset my loss, but I’m curious…
if you pay for your family’s healthcare through work, how much are you paying?
I’m NOT looking to start a political debate on healthcare so please don’t talk about government or politics.
My dentist made a joke that my teeth are possessed… and I’m beginning to believe her. I popped out a crown while beach camping. It’s the same crown I paid a couple hundred dollars to have re-done in March.
Before you blame my dentist for shoddy work, I should mention I was eating a frozen Rollo. I had found my brother’s stash of Rollos in his Smores supply and ate a few. When I told my brother that I lost yet another crown, he asked how, and I had to fess up.
He said I deserved it for stealing.
Meanie.
My dentist was able to squeeze me in yesterday and my mom was kind enough to watch baby boy. Total damage to savings?
$0
The dentist told me this one was free but she better not see me again anytime soon. She told me to stay away from frozen Rollos and, while I’m at it, steer clear of frozen Snickers too. I guess she’s seen it all before.
And, in case you are interested, next time you are camping, make Carmel Apple Smores. Use graham crackers, thinly sliced granny smith apples, roasted marshmallows, and Rollos. Delicious!
Just make sure the Rollos aren’t frozen.
We had our first hit to cash savings this month. We actually would have skipped by but the $690.00 healthcare payment had to come from somewhere.
So far, we haven’t received any bills from the hospital so I’m crossing my fingers on that one. We should be fully covered… but you never know.
