Because of the whole ‘family week’ thing I’ve got going, I thought it might be an appropriate time to update you on my family.

Baby boy is 2 1/2 months old now and so darn adorable.

We went to his 8 week check-up and my husband, all 5′ 10″ of him if he stands straight and eats his Wheaties, swore ‘his boy’ would be in the 75th percentile in height and the 50th percentile in weight (50th percentile is the size of an average child).

Baby boy is in the 30th percentile for height…

and the 65th percentile for weight.

So I thought this photo of him was fitting.

Overall, I can’t express how much I enjoy being a mom. Every moment is special – even the ones involving projectile poop. It’s so much better than I ever expected.

This week is the last week with him though. I’m heading back to work next week… and I’ve been crying since Tuesday.

Sigh.

I’m starting to see an accidental theme on my posts this week – looks like it’s family week!

E-mealz notified me that this week is their family week. You can get a free recipe and download a game each night to play with the family. I checked out the activities and recipes and let’s just say Monday’s ‘Cake Batter Chocolate Truffles’ look awfully delicious! Hmmm… I’m wondering if it’s too early to run to the grocery store and have them for breakfast.

E-mealz is also offering discounts on their meal plans if you enter the code FAMWEEK

SAVE TIME AND MONEY WITH E-MEALZ MEAL PLANS

Tonight is National Family Game Night according to the folks at Hasbro. They encourage families to turn off the electronics and spend quality time together.

My parents have always been huge proponents of family time without electronics. Growing up, we were VERY limited on TV and gaming console time. Weekends were intended for family and that meant playing card games and outdoor sports together. Nearly 40 years later, not much has changed. Most of the time at my parents’ home is spent in the kitchen cooking together or in the dining room around the family table playing a hand of Skip-Bo.

Sure, there were disagreements and yes, dad may have once thrown the Monopoly game into the air and lost half the pieces… but that’s where the folks at Hasbro come to save the day! Hasbro is offering to recycle those old games with missing pieces. In exchange, you can get coupons for savings on new games (you can get coupons without recycling as well). Worried about paying postage? Hasbro has that covered too! Pre-paid shipping labels can be printed directly from their website.

Every so often, my husband’s health insurance company, Anthem Blue Cross, mails us a magazine called Healthy Solutions. Admittedly, I only browse this magazine in the short trip from the mailbox to the recycling bin, but an article caught my eye. The article was titled, ‘Wondering how to stay healthy in an economy that’s not?’

The article shared ways Anthem is working to save you money by helping you stay healthy. Sure, healthier members save Anthem money, but there’s nothing wrong with a little win-win right?!?

I browsed the website was surprised at the free offerings from his insurance provider including free workout plans by Bob Harper from the Biggest Loser, health tips, ways to save on prescriptions, free health assessments, members only discounts on vitamins/eyeglasses/hearing aids/gym memberships/etc., doctor ratings, and lifestyle improvement programs.

I checked into my health insurance provider and they offered tons of freebees as well. Save a little cash and check with your health insurance company. You may very well be paying for something you could get for less!

For those of you Grouponers, there is a new daily deal discounter for health and wellness products, Healthdeals.com.

Healthdeals offers discounts on gym memberships, nutrition bars, beauty products, and more. Today’s deals include: Beautorium, Purefit, Sha ToBu, Fusion Power Band, Funkoos, and Bashful Bump.

I’ve said it before, I’m not a Groupon member and I’m not a Healthdeals member either. But you can browse the offerings without signing up. DON’T BUY STUFF YOU DON’T ALREADY BUY!! But if you need something health related, you may be able to save a little money.

Best of luck!

I was listening to talk radio the other day when the host shared Wal-Mart’s latest decision to offer layaway this holiday season. Wal-Mart had ended the program five years ago due to low usage but reopened the program this year because of requests from consumers trying to avoid using credit cards. I’m not a fan of layaway personally. I’d rather save the money myself and save the $10 fee for the program BUT, if it came down to credit cards or layaway – layaway would win every time.

A few stores offering layaway this holiday season:

Sears, Kmart, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Best Buy, Toys ‘R’ Us and ELayaway

Check out this article and decide for yourself if layaway is right for you:

I don’t have to worry about layaway this year since hubby and I won’t be purchasing gifts but have any of you done layaway? How’d you like it?

We’re meeting with my sister-in-law this weekend to discuss childcare for Baby Cash. Please take into consideration, I can hardly talk about returning to work without breaking down into tears.

Ugh. Don’t know if I can do this.

BUT, she is a great, great, great mom and I know I couldn’t leave him with a better person. I don’t know what I’d do without her offer to watch the little guy.

Anyway, before the discussion, I had to take a look at our budget to see what we could afford (probably something I should have done BEFORE we got pregnant).

Hmm. Let’s see. Rob grocery budget, rob car maintenance budget, rob… uh oh. Where the heck am I going to rob the rest?!?!? Maybe I should collect cans on the beach over the weekend?

This could get interesting………
