We had a wonderful time camping at the beach. Times like these remind me why I love Southern California – just not the lawsuits.

And we’re off!

We’ll be spending the week beach camping with family and friends. Beach camping is my favorite type of vacation because it doesn’t usually cost us anything. We cook BBQ meals using our regular grocery budget and we all split the cost of the camping space between the group.

Have a good weekend! I know I will!

If you want to camp at some GREAT spots, check Reserveamerica.com. My top three: Doheny State Beach, San Clemente State Beach, and Carlsbad State Beach.

That fever I’ve been sporting for the last few days was actually Mastitis. It’s a crummy infection you get from nursing.

Tired, fevered, and in tremendous pain, I considered quitting. Formula would make things so much easier in my life. I went to Target, browsed the formula aisle, coughed in shock from the price tags, then pushed my cart straight to the ice pack section and went home.

The baby is fabulously healthy according to his doc, I’m couch surfing with ice packs and warm compresses, and my checkbook is safe.

Our attorney called today to inform me that the lawsuit against us settled. The plaintiff accepted our offer – the same offer that has been on the table for the last eight months. I’m frustrated we paid for depositions and court reporters for months that were completely unnecessary.

I don’t want to share details of the case until we receive the final paperwork but I’m struggling with the fact we paid anything at all to the plaintiff.

At least it’s over and I can finally scratch out ‘legal fees’ from our budget. But then again, this IS California. The chances of us getting sued again are pretty high.

Maybe I should move to Texas.

Every summer, our home is invaded by eight legged critters. It hasn’t bothered me much in the past. A bite or two here or there isn’t too bad. This summer, the spiders decided I was particularly tasty and I’m on my second set of welts.

On Sunday, I went to visit my parents and my mother noticed the nasty bites on my arm. My mother and grandmother rubbed soothing balm to reduce the swelling and stop the itch.

I was considering calling a pest control company but I’m trying my best to spend as little as possible these days. Plus, I’m the only one who gets bit so it seems a bit ridiculous to spend lots money to save myself a few days of itching.

Today, my dad came over toting his sprayer and a heavy dose of insecticides. I think he knew I was too frugal to call a pest control company and figured he’d take care of it for me.

Turns out, you’re never too old to think your dad is superman.

It’s been a few days since my last post and I apologize. Baby boy got sick which meant I was trapped on the couch cleaning baby spit up. Then, to make things worse, I’ve been running a fever for the last two days.

We’ve been couch surfing for a while now. We both have appointments with our doctors so I’m hoping things will be better next week.

Today, my husband took his very last final for school. He was able to walk with his graduating class in May but had to finish two summer school classes. Plus, his employer was putting him through training courses at night on top of everything else. I was lucky to see him once or twice a week.

Gone are the frequent dollars spent at Jack in the Box as he ran to class and gone are the Starbucks stops on the way to study groups.

Cue my sepia colored fantasies of us taking long luxurious walks after dinner talking about ways to reduce debt. I was beyond excited to finally have my husband back… until I got a phone call from him this morning.

“Hey hon! Yay! It’s over! I’m finally done. But hey, I wanted to talk to you tonight. Now that I have some free time, I was thinking about getting those certifications and licenses I’ve been talking about. I’ll have to look up the course dates.”

Sigh.

I guess there is always next year.
