We had a lovely time in Galway last night. We went to a local busy pub for dinner and listened to an amazing band. Hours passed as I enjoyed my Irish experience with the group. This morning, we were informed that the band was from Nashville. So much for my “Irish” experience!
We received a call from our defense attorney yesterday afternoon. The plaintiff’s attorney had overbooked his time and was not able to proceed with the deposition. He decided to reschedule for mid-October but since we are several thousand miles away, the deposition can’t happen until November or December.
I know criminals have the right to a speedy trial…
But what about those of us on the other side?
You know, the ones still in litigation nearly four years after an alleged incident?
I walk around the house singing, ‘Neverending Laaawwwwsuitttt’ to the tune of Never Ending Story on a daily basis now.
We arrived in Ireland safely and are in gallway right now. Jet lag is painful but it is beautiful here!! I’m writing from a wifi connection from my iPod so sorry for the misspellings and bad punctuation!
Boy oh boy. October is turning out to be a tough month financially… and we aren’t even home for half of it!!
First we had the security problem, now we have more legal fees.
My husband is being called in for another deposition on the three year old lawsuit against us.
Short synopsis: Someone injured themselves on city property in front of our home and we’ve been fighting the legal battle ever since. Gotta love California.
Our share of the expense is $125.
Not bad in the scheme of legal fees, but painful on personal finances. I can understand why people settle lawsuits when the fault is not theirs. After a while, you grow to a level of weary you can’t even explain.
Just a quickie post before we leave. My family and I are off to Ireland and Italy this morning. Our plane leaves in a few hours and I’m giddy with excitement.
My husband and I are trying to adjust our sleeping habits as best we can so I’m up at 3am making cinnamon rolls while squeezing in sets of jumping jacks to keep me awake. We’ll see if this works out.
I can’t tell you how WEIRD it is to not pack my trusty Bank of America credit card (long since shredded) to accompany me! We are funding this trip totally by CASH. When I come home, I won’t be dreading seeing my mailman! Yay!
So what are the final numbers for the trip?
Two and a half weeks, two countries, two multi-day tours, airfare, and hotel came out to…$1,800 per person. It’s not my best work but the darn open jaw airfare messed up the budget!
I will try my best to post along the way, my brother is taking his iPad, but don’t rely on it. I’ve scheduled posts to appear while I’m gone but if something terrible happens – like a nuclear war, a catastrophic natural disaster, or they renew America’s Got Talent for another season – and I’m posting about making cookies and eating bon bons, give me until I get home to respond.
See you at the end of October!
My husband says, ‘Every time someone sneezes, you get pneumonia.’
He was wrong. I didn’t get pneumonia.
It’s a nasty sinus infection. So there.
And if you’ve ever had one, you know that between pneumonia and a sinus infection, you’d rather have pneumonia when flying.
I’ve never had one before and wasn’t quick to pick up the signs. It wasn’t until my doctor was hitting tender skin around my nose that I realized I had a big problem.
I can’t bend forward, can’t cough, can’t sneeze, can’t sniffle, and can’t talk without tremendous pain – other than that, I’m totally fine.
My doctor said, ‘I wouldn’t advise flying, especially not a 12 hour flight. Not that you’re going to listen – but I’m just saying it to make me feel better.’
She gave me four prescriptions and I was on my way.
I can recover from a sinus infection in 24 hours. I can recover from a sinus infection in 24 hours. I can recover from a sinus infection in 24 hours.
Shoot.
So you want to take a trip abroad.
Buy a plane ticket, book a hotel, see the sights.
Oh if life were so easy…
You have to hire a housesitter/petsitter, put mail delivery on hold, get your international driver’s license, call the cellphone company for a loaner global phone, buy a winter jacket from Goodwill (hello – we don’t have ‘winter’ here in So. Cal – well… not the same winter Ireland has anyway), arrange airport transportation, find someone to start our cars once a week, and call the bank to let them know we’ll be out of the country… and that’s just what I had to do today.
I thought taking on the planning of this trip wouldn’t be overwhelming.
Ha!
Working two jobs and singlehandedly planning an international trip for the family is turning out to be quite the stress inducer.
I gave everyone a list of things they had to do before we leave including call the credit/debit card companies to notify them about our trip. My brother said, ‘What’s their number?’ as if somehow all banks shared the same phone.
I’m not taking a head count at every stop. If we come back with a few less people…um… I promise to contact the police immediately…after a nice long nap.
