I am one of those weird people who honestly love jury duty. If it were possible, I would make a living out of watching court proceedings. I mean, I guess I can, but I don’t have time for law school and a couple dozen years serving at a law firm until I could sit on a bench as a judge.
As much as I love jury duty, I rarely get the chance to go. The courthouse hasn’t requested my service for three very long years. I’m like the annoying kid in class who is always raising her hand but never gets called on.
Four weeks ago, I opened my mailbox and… rays of sunshine shone from heaven and the angels sang the halleluiah chorus as I opened the cream colored summons.
Last night I called the juror hotline for my reporting time and…
My services were not needed.
What’s next? Why don’t they just off Santa and the Easter Bunny while they’re at it!
I’m ‘on call’ for the next 5 business days. Since it’s a holiday weekend, I can’t imagine the courthouse will be a hoppin’ place.
Darn.
Three years totally wasted.
My dining out moratorium ends on Monday.
I might just spend the entire day at my favorite Mexican food shop crying tears of joy into a carne asada burrito.
You should probably know, I did end up violating the ‘no dining out’ policy last weekend again. My sister was in town for the garage sale and she forced me to take her to the Thai food restaurant down the street.
OK, so she didn’t exactly ‘force’ me per se. She may have said, ‘Aren’t you on a no dining out policy?”
Darn this blog and the accountability that comes with it.
“Uh, I think that ended last week” I stuttered and ushered her into the car before she asked questions.
Twice in two months isn’t bad.
I’ve saved so much money from dining at home and eating leftovers that I feel more secure financially – even if only a little bit. It’s like dieting for two months and fitting into your skinny jeans.
I think this may become permanent…
I had the opportunity to read ‘The Millionaire Next Door’ by Thomas Stanley this week during my commute to work.
The book is in one word… amazing. I mean really, if the guy can make a book entirely of statistics about a group of people I can’t even relate to and keep me interested, he’s a pretty good author.
Stanley covers the gamut of what makes a millionaire different from others. From how they manage marriage, to work, to frugality, to children, it’s all there.
The most shocking statistic? Most millionaires drive used domestic cars worth less than $30,000. The most popular model? A Ford F-150. Now every time I see an old Ford, I wonder if a very wise person is behind the wheel.
His main point – The gross majority of millionaires don’t care what you think of them.
Sounds like something I need to work on.
Rent this book from the library. It’s FASCINATING!
