We’ve been waiting for a check from unemployment for 4 weeks… and we’re still waiting.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand government paperwork – heck, I process it every day as a government employee! But I think it’s important for everyone to be prepared.
Here’s a head’s up to those who think they may lose their jobs…
save to survive longer than 4 weeks.
Am I alone in this? Anyone else waiting for all of eternity?
We’re still coasting through on savings and odd jobs – and I am grateful we were prepared.

Hang in there! I think it takes on AVERAGE 5-6 weeks to get your check, at least that’s what several friends who receive benefits have told me.
How many weeks do you guys get to receive it before you have to apply for an extension? Hope the gov’t passes another 14 weeks of benefits!
Best,
FS

It’s not a persomal thing to them, they don’t care one way or the other. The process is agonizingly slow, that’s all. Hang in there!

Just a question, what is your outlet for finding odd jobs. I’m looking for them mainly through craigslist. But stuff is either radically underpaid or involves being a strong man. I just can’t seem to find anything I can do.
I heard you picked up some accounting work. Is that your regular trained work? If not I’d be interested how you got into it. That seems like a notch I might be able to get into.

It’s always a great idea to have some spare money on the side especially when processing unemployment seems to take forever! I’ve heard that it also takes anywhere from 4-6 weeks to receive your check. Hopefully, yours is in the mail and on its way!

Try waiting 13 weeks.

Once again, thank goodness Dave Ramsey prepared you for this “worst case scenario”! I hope it comes soon : )

So what is your husband doing to get off of unemployment?

It’s crazy you have to wait so long. I recently saw on the news that here in Las Vegas people have to call in or register online every week and they can’t get through or the website is down. With so many people unemployed they need to do something to imrpove the system. Hope you get your checks soon. I know it doesn’t help not having your check right now, but you will get them retro active won’t you?

I live in Washington state and got my first check about a week after my first ‘waiting week’. In other words, two weeks after I applied online.
Perhaps the wait varies by state. Hopefully you get it soon.

Aaron – I’m guessing we’ll come close to that. Turns out, you don’t get a check until after a phone interview and they send it 10 days after that. We aren’t scheduled for a phone interview until next week.
Joe Dirt – My husband is looking for jobs daily. It’s not like he’s sitting at home living off the government. It’s hard to do that when you don’t even have your first check yet.
John – Ugh! That’s lame!
Kari – I think I’ll move to Washington state! ; ) Kidding! But I love Washington state – beautiful up there!
