The San Diego County Chula Vista Little League team won the Little League World Series…
But that’s not the big part of the story.
I was listening to the radio last week and the announcer spoke of the success of the fundraiser to not only pay the travel expenses of the team… but for their families as well. In this economy, where everyone is scraping nickels and pennies, residents were able to pool together well over $100,000 to be a part of a life changing event for those young boys.
The city actually STOPPED accepting money because they had MORE than they needed.
Congratulations to the Chula Vista Little League team but more importantly…
Congratulations to those who made the dreams of those boys and their families come true.

$100,000? Was this for the travel expenses for the team for the season, or just for the series?

I’m another San Diego area blogger and gave a shout out to our champions as well.
It’s nice to see the generosity of people even though this is not economically good times.

As someone who truly believes that Americans are generous and willing to give for good causes, this is a great success story. Even in tough times we can band together and make good things happen.

That’s really cool. It’s great to see people give back to the community. I own a silk screening and advertising specialty company. We do shirts and promotional items for lots of charities and non profit organizations. We always give 20% percent of orders placed by the sponsors back to the organaziation they are supporting. A lot of charities have had there budgets killed by the economy. It’s good see people are donating and helping out their favorite organization.

Many companies helped as well, including the Chargers and Padres.
Caitlin – That was for all travel expenses (flight, hotel, transportation, food, etc.) for the team members, staff, coaches, parents, and siblings…

Fantastic story, and great comeback for the kids late in the game. Restores your faith even in these trying times.
