If you’re in debt like I am… you’ve experienced the ‘Oh crud, how much damage did I do while recklessly spending on my vacation’ thoughts.
Our previous vacation trips were fun but the nasty ‘debt hangover’ when we came home always sucked (excuse my language, but I’m being dreadfully honest).
When we arrived home from beach camping, I flipped on my computer and closed my eyes after typing my password for online banking.
Tick. Tick. Tick.
Why is it when you are broke and running the risk of overdrafts, the bank websites turn to sludge? It’s as if they get a sick satisfaction in making your pain last longer.
The screen finally popped up and… I screamed.
We only spent $38 for the week (I’ll update you later on how we shamelessly saved money in ridiculous ways).
I’m fairly certain we spend more than that when we aren’t on vacation.
Cheers to my first ‘debt hangover’ free vacation!

Congratulations!
I went on a vacation once to the Cote D’Azur and that amount wouldn’t have paid for the drinks bill for my 3 children for 1 restaurant meal !
I’m not sure I will be going back….

Congrats, I am sure that made you feel great to know that you spent so little. I am looking forward to the entry of how you spend less.

Just a quick question – why didn’t you budget for the trip? I’m assuming you planned it ahead – why didn’t you set aside money for the trip itself instead of looking back at your account? Just seems a little dangerous to me – but I’ve just become the type to budget everything.
