You did much better than I did on vacation expenses, but I think I'll pass on the cold shower. I applaud your resolve!

Nice job! My family saved money by going camping as well. It's a great choice!

Heh, the only shameless part I see is the cold shower, I too would have paid or gone without.

One word of caution, at least if you live in the northeast quarter of the US, many states and the Feds have firewood movement regulations. Off the top of my head, it is illegal to move it into or out of NY, PA, OH, MI and probably others. This is to combate the spread of exotic invasive insects such as Emerald Ash Borer and Asian Longhorn Beatle. http://www.emeraldashborer.info/

But haveing said that I love camping, and it is a fun way to have a cheep vacation.

Okay, so what part was shameless? I managed to miss that. Cold shower - acceptable, but not my cup of tea. I would have paid 50 cents a day, but it's not shameless to go cold.

Stored firewood - it had to go somewhere, so why not your campfire?

Borrowing supplies - do it a lot. We're borrowing a friend's 2nd home for half of our vacation - they offered it when they found out we were going to that area. If you begin to camp a lot, you pick those things up little by little. Your rules for borrowing and returning are perfect.

Kid's meal at the fast food joint? If they don't disallow it, why not - you get the amount of food you want and need and no more.

I think you did GREAT!
