Leave it to me.

I’ve been in perfect health for more than 6 months – not even a sore throat to annoy me. Now that the cold and flu season is over… I’ve come down with a nasty bug. Heaven forbid I get sick when everyone else does. Now I’m the freak show who’s sick in JUNE.

I got sick yesterday afternoon. I felt awful at work and before leaving, I told my boss, ‘Hey, I’m not feeling very well. I’m going to drink some tea and get to bed early. Have a good night.’

Everyone knows the cardinal rule of making two day weekends to three day weekends… fake sick on Thursday afternoon and call in sick on Friday. Er… so I’ve heard.

Terrified that my boss will think I’m lying, I’m forced to go to work this morning even though I feel like I’ve been hit by a giant rotating ferris wheel…multiple times. I’m not one of those people who look adorable when I’m sick. My eyes get red and puffy, my skin gets itchy, my nose turns pepto bismol pink, and I’m embarrassed to go out in public.

Fortunately, this should work well for me in this particular situation. I’m going to work… and I hope to be back home and in bed within an hour.

Ugh, me too! A guy I work with infected a few of us (try not to touch anything while you’re there – wash your hands a lot for others’ sake). My theory is that allergies aggravated my system past the breaking point.

    Drink lots of water.

  2. Kevin responded:

Someone has got to keep those germs incubated over the summer so they will be around when the next flu and cold season strikes. ;-)

Just kidding. I hope you feel better soon. At least you have the weekend to feel better.

  3. Amphritrite responded:

I got knocked on my keister this week too, Beks; stupid headcold! I’m convinced that my allergies killed my immune system, so the first bug that came by was the one that got in :(

    Still recovering. Argh.

  4. Kate responded:

Me too! Sore throat, coughing, and sooo tired! The other day someone coughed on me at Loehmann’s and I am pretty sure that’s where I got it. In this time of Swine Flu/H1N1 Virus scares, we should be so much more aware that our smallest actions can have a HUGE impact. Just like they say in my favorite book, The Power of Small, there are no small actions! Feel better :)

  5. Beks responded:

Apparently it’s going around! Ugh! It’s awful!

  6. mikey responded:

so when you went in sick friday, did the ceo at least see you to try to recover from the last encounter?

  7. Beks responded:

Thank the Lord no! I was able to go to work and return home a few hours later.

  8. Sara responded:

It is now June 28th, 2009 and I too am very sick! I also went ALL winter without anything to hold me down and now this!?! How long did it take you to recover? I am going on day 4 and I seem to be getting worse! HELP!
