We have had to make some changes with our diets. As a result, I am making a lot more things from scratch so we can control the nutritional content. It’s been a challenge, but I am really enjoying it. There’s one site that has been very valuable: All Recipes.
Did you know that you can make graham crackers from scratch? The site has the basic recipe, and you can find some real treasures while reading the comments! There are many users who have tweaked the recipes to fit their health needs.
I’m finding that I am feeling more confident with trying to add my own creativity to the mix. If I don’t have a particular ingredient, maybe I can try something else. I can also see if I can do anything with food that is near its shelf life. I bought a canister of prunes but I can’t eat them fast enough. No one else in the house likes them, so I may try whipping up this prune cake that has rave reviews. Of course, I won’t mention there are prunes in it
Today I made some pudding from scratch and it was yummy and easy to make. It will be a great snack to put into little containers for a road trip or a summer picnic.

Hey, my girlfriend and I have been using all recipes lately to find quick and cheap recipes. It’s great!

Oooh allrecipes is one of my favorite sites for recipes. You should also try recipezaar. I always look for the recipes that has the most great reviews and make ‘em and they never fail me!

Allrecipes.com is one of my favorite sites on the web, hands-down. Did you know you can sign up for a recipe a day e-mail? It’s actually 4 or 5 recipes every day, but it’s a great way to gather some inspiration!

I have used allrecipes.com for years & it is ALWAYS my first go-to site for any recipe I need. I especially love the advanced search where you can put not only ingredients you want, but ingredients you don’t want, as well.

Thanks for the sites, I am looking to update my dull menu. Have been to a few cooking sites but haven’t found anything great or easy with ingredients I actually own. I’ll check out.

Thanks for the sites! My wife will love these, she’s a deal queen

I love that site too! It’s pretty much the only recipe site I use. It’s been great to me for years now.

Yeah, my wife’s been an AllRecipes addict for years.
Anybody wanna reimburse me for all the inkjet toner she’s blown thru in that time?

I love that site and also Recipezaar.com. Both are great. I knew that you could make marshmallows from scratch but didn’t know you could make graham crackers!

You are not kidding. We have been using that site for a few years now. Simply fantastic. You can specify what ingredients you have and it will pull recipes with those ingredients. You can even scale the recipe to fit your meal requirements.
I would highly recommend reading some of the reviews on the recipes. We have found that people have posted some tips on changing a couple of ingredients or supplementing with something else if need be.
They also have an iPhone application which kind of works as a slot machine. You pick the type of meat, time of day, and something else, I can’t remember now, but it comes up with a list of recipes from their site.
Ok, I am done, I sound like a spokesperson.

Thanks for posting this! I’m a vegetarian, so I love finding new websites that have new ideas for cooking and making new recipes

momstheworld – hehe…I didn’t know you could make marshmallows from scratch

I’m with breagha–I’m a vegetarian as well and really enjoy finding new recipes on allrecipes.com as well as vegweb.com. One of my favorite “tricks” is to type in an ingredient I have leftover in the pantry (today it’s yukon gold potatoes) and find new recipes to use it up. The graham crackers sound delicious

We are always looking for new recipies, especially since we have been cooking at home a lot. Thanks for sharing.

As momstheword above said, recipezaar.com is a fantastic site. I will check allrecipes.com out too. Thanks for the tip
As a grad student I’ve really learned to love cooking!
