My hair is "virgin" hair - I never dye it or perm it. And, after it reaches a certain length, I don't even blow dry it. But, I don't have the patience to grow it out long enough to donate it, and I'm assuming it has to be fairly long in order to sell it. It's too bad we didn't know about donating hair when I was a child. I had hair down to my waist, and then we chopped it off to the shoulder. That was the last time I had hair long enough to donate.

They are. You can really get inventive when you need to. And being a man with grey hair, who'd want my hair!

I started making Diaper and Towel cakes for baby/wedding showers and weddings. It all snowballed from one gift and has made a nice little side income when things have been tight.

The trouble with donating/selling hair in North America is that most people these days chemically treat their hair. Dyes, perms, relaxers, heat drying/straightening - all of these can render hair unusable for the charities (they just sell that hair, they don't use it to make wigs) or undesirable for buyers (they just won't buy it). It's really only useful to sell "virgin" (aka untreated) hair.
Even then I'd pick a charity with a better reputation than LoL - such as the Pantene Beautiful Lengths one.

I think I would have trouble selling my hair. After donating it several times to Locks of Love it's hard to imagine a better purpose for my unneeded tresses. Come to think of it, the first time I donated my hair several years ago was right around the time I couldn't make make my rent by TWO DOLLARS. Even if I'd known I could sell it then, I'm sure I probably wouldn't have.
