Not too long ago, I mentioned using istockphoto.com to earn a few extra bucks. After that article was published, I was tipped off to another site where filmakers can make some extra money.

Whether you are an amateur or professional videographer, the site’s premise looks very interesting. You shoot the video they need, get paid, and then the company assembles a finished product for the project they are working on.

Here’s the site: Elasticlab.com

They do have some requirements regarding equipment, so make sure you read through the fine print. This would have been perfect for us since at one time we had the equipment to do it. Alas, the equipment was sold to pay off debt or we would have jumped on this one :(

Since I cannot verify the site and use it, I found one blogger who wrote about earning money with them.

Anyone reading have experience with Elastic Lab?

  1. Family Man responded:

Interesting information. I’ll be checking them both out.

  2. Write for eHow responded:

Interesting info, Tricia. I currently write for extra income, but I’ve often wondered about photo sites.

Have you had any luck/made any money with istockphoto?

  3. Charlie Hoehn responded:

    Hey Tricia,

One thing I probably should go back and mention in that post I wrote a few months ago is how infrequently Elastic Lab offers assignments. In the 5 months I’ve been with them, they have only given me two opportunities to make any money (i.e. there’s no consistency). They’re a young start-up company, so hopefully they rake in more clients over the next year and are able to dole out more assignments.

It’s a fun and easy way to make money, but you won’t make a lot of it, unfortunately.

  4. Aya @ Thrive responded:

Cool – I immediately passed on the word to a friend of mine who is a film-maker in the making :) Let’s see if he actually joins and tries it out.
    How’s the stockphotos thing going?

  5. Alex responded:

I personally haven’t done anything with Elasticlab.com, but a friend of mine claims it to work out great for him. I’m not sure about how well it would work for an amateur, he has his own film production company, and does it for side money.

  6. Marina Martin, Community Evangelist @ Elastic Lab responded:

Thanks again for mentioning us, Tricia!

To follow-up on Charlie’s comment, the frequency of our assignments does vary quite a bit. Elastic Lab has a number of exciting projects coming up, and as we continue to grow, so will the number of projects we have available.

Since we have projects in place across the country, and different assignments for different experience levels, you never know when a project comes up that you’ll be a perfect fit for, so I encourage anyone interested to signup and see what it’s like to work with us.

@Alex We’ve got assignments available for amateurs, too, like shooting interviews or b-roll. There’s also plenty of room for amateurs to advance to more complex assignments as they gain experience.
