Many thanks for posting this, Tricia!

JA Huber, I'm glad to hear you were able to sort your problem out without too much fuss.

If only credit card companies were always this understanding!

I've been learning about debt and death with the unexpected passing of my ex-husband earlier this year. We were divorced for 3.5 years. I had forgotten I was an authorized user on a gas card he had until I received a fraud alert via Equifax a couple of weeks ago. "Someone" (I have a pretty good idea who) maxed out the card after his death and I was afraid I would be responsible. Thankfully, the credit card company took me off the account and told me I wouldn't be responsible.

"These are the only two ways, despite what the credit card company will tell you, that you are responsible for the debt of the person who has passed away." This is SO important, b/c credit card companies *will* try to say otherwise. Thank you.

Great reminders regarding what happens to your debt when you are gone. It's important for loved ones to know how to settle your estate, and it is the honorable thing to do assuming you have the assets to cover your debts.
