Good observation on how little costs add up ... especially recurring costs like a latte every day. Most people think of buying a cup of coffee as a bit of loose change, but if one adds the cost up over a year it amounts to a considerable chunk of change. As a commenter above noted about hiring cleaners — one must weigh the costs versus the benefits.

You are right, Mrs. M.

Its not just with financial indulgences alone. On all things, I think we should match them with our goals every once in a while and see if they fit or are in line.

And we should also check the motivation driving our goals. Too often we make goals which are just fashionable.

I agree that you need to have some cheap luxuries. These help to improve your quality of life and not make you feel like you are really suffering to pay off your debts. My luxury is having cleaners. I could save $3000 a year but what is saves in stress is amazing.

Thank you for pointing out that there IS some wiggle room and that we should look at the big picture. Sometimes it is so discouraging to read advice that basically tells people to give up every single pleasure for several years in order to get out of debt.
