According to the IRS representative I talked to yesterday, our federal refund isn’t necessarily delayed. The automated system did say I was due to get the refund this week, but I guess they changed their mind with the delayed message and the representative said we should have it next week. Sort of a bummer because I wanted to hit below the $13,000 mark by the end of the month.

Times like these, I do the next best thing and pay as much as we can. That ended up being $200 for right now and that brings our debt total to $13,198. I’m hoping that some money will arrive by the end of the month and I hope to sell a few more things on Craigslist. If that happens, we could make it under the $13,000 mark without our tax refund.

There is a saying on the tip of my tongue…one that you sometimes say when you do the best you can even though you may not hit the mark? Hmm…it’s not coming to me.

In any case, I’m still going to try to do the best we can for March :)

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.

That’s the one it made me think of anyways :)

  2. HS@OurDebtBlog responded:

Congratulations! I’m right with you at 12,800.. hopefully we can finish together!

    HS@ourdebtblog

That is what my wife says to me.

  4. arduous responded:

Yeah, my thought was the shoot for the moon saying too….

  5. Sherri responded:

I can’t remember exactly how long I’ve been reading your blog, but it’s gotta be at least a year now. I can’t believe how far your debt has dropped in that time. Congrats. :)

  6. Da Big D responded:

Seriously why are you wasting your time calling the IRS?????? You check will show up when they send it. Yes, its your money, but let them do their job and it will shop up when it does. Calling them will not make it go any faster….

  7. Tricia responded:

Da Big D – because our message said delayed, I wanted to call and find out why. We had that IRS debt that we paid in full. If for some reason it was not showing as paid in full, that would cause problems with our refund. I wanted to make sure that wasn’t the problem.

  8. SingleGuyMoney responded:

It sucks that you won’t be able to get your debt below 13k like you planned but at least it is going in the right direction!

  9. Matt responded:

It sucks when life throws these little curveballs that prevent you from hitting your goal a little earlier but its just a delay rather than a set back. Keep it up! :)

  10. John responded:

It realy is amazing progress… an knocking down those milestones is rewarding. I get you on the patience thing. I’ve gone through a period of higher expenses, but think I’ve come out of it. I think I have some extra to put toward debt, but I really should wait until my next paycheck to confirm that… but the wait, even just 8 days seems so long. Ive got just over $1k on my last credit card (personal loans still carry the bulk of my debt)… with the next payment I’ll be into the 3 digits!

  11. naughtylittledebt responded:

Hey Tricia! I have been reading your blog for a few months, I even went back to the beginging to see what you were going through when you were back in my shoes. I am currenty $37,000 in debt, and am starting to blog my journey! Just wanted to tell you you are my inspiration! I can’t wait to see you get to $0!

  12. wealthy_1 responded:

Congratulations on your debt reduction! I see the savings is growing too. Continued success!

  13. Qcash responded:

    Tricia,

Well done on the debt repayment. You have paid off a third of your debt and that is pretty fabulous.

It would be interesting to have a post about how much interest you were paying when you started compared to how much you are paying now.

    All the best,

    Q

  14. Tricia responded:

Qcash – great idea! I’ll work on a post :)

  15. credit card debt responded:

It’s a sure good thing to hear how your debt has dropped. Surely, any credit card debtors can experience debt reduction like you are experiencing now only if they have aims to reducing their debts like you, too. Planning as well as disciplining oneself could contribute to avoidance and reducing ones debts. Congrats on your side! :)
