I’m with Da Big D… the people who are most upset are the powersellers and dropshippers. eBay’s lowered the listing fees, but increased the final value sale fees (made it seem like a great thing by lowering the listing fees, yet upped the charges on the completed sales). They’ve also made it so that sellers can’t leave negative feedback supposedly. I can kind of understand the frustration here, because if you’re stuck with an unpaying bidder, you can’t a) retaliate in public or b) warn other sellers. So as a seller, you can’t check to see if someone’s a good buyer or not when they bid on your stuff.

That said, ebay can still make you money on certain things (I sell ebooks) and for de-cluttering, it still can’t be beat.

Personally, I can’t stand doing garage sales, but that’s because I’m lazy. LOL

Don’t worry about the ebay boycott. Professional sellers are upset because fees have been increased and there is no more “negative” feedback. (http://money.cnn.com/2008/02/15/smbusiness/ebay_strike_update.fsb/)

But if you have something to sell, sell it on ebay, if no on buys it, sell it at your garage sale, if still no one buys it, donate it!

I’ve slowly been reducing clutter myself – its nice to see all the extra space that it creates. When you really look at some things you wonder why you were keeping them in the first place. I’ve questioned why I purchased somethings in the first place. It’s definitely gone a long way to making me spend less (surprisingly).

I think yard sales are great, plus you don’t have to worry about shipping or bad eBay buyers (we hate eBay).

However, we love to just do everything as a donation to charity. That way we can clear the clutter bit by bit and feel good that it’s going to people who need it.

We donated quite a few clothes after our garage sale. We took a trunk full of stuff to St. Vinnies. But, there are a lot of clothes left since we were selling my son’s entire wardrobe from birth on up.

A lot of clothes were originally purchased for my son there (for a quarter a piece), so we thought it was fitting to give back. For us, any donations are not tax deductible because we take the standard deduction.

I’ve been both a seller and a buyer on Ebay. I am supporting the boycott. Feedback is a complicated issue and I don’t think they’ve thought it through well enough. Craigslist is great for buying and selling furniture locally – despite the fact that Ebay now owns 25%.

I’m in your boat. Generally, I will donate to Goodwill just to get the stuff out of the house. I actually kept the records necessary for the tax deduction last year and it wasn’t enough to make a difference in our return. (The third child, however, she helped a lot!) Anyway, I am really wanting to have a garage sale and trying to wait patiently for the snow to go away like you. I was close to throwing in the towel just to get the stuff out of my life yesterday. Hoping to hold on just a little longer! Hang in there.

This is the quandry I have had. Now I need to use ebay to sell. I want to support the boycott but I need to sell my stuff. I do donate a lot to Goodwill or Salvation Army, it is much easier than a Garage Sale. I like to drop off a bag before I go shopping. I will sell on ebay, and drop off stuff at Good Will and Salvation Army.

I really need to get cracking on selling off my unwanted items on ebay. I have so many books and DVD’s that I’m sure someone may want somewhere.

I’ve also got to speak to my local library to see if they will take some as donations. We can’t claim them as a tax deduction here in Australia, but there’s a good for the soul vibe that’s worth it.

I have found that it is a better use of my time to donate items i no longer need or use to the an organization like the Salvation Army or Goodwill. I find that the tax deduction saves me about as much on my taxes that I would get by selling the item on ebay or at a garage sale. And the plus is that I don’t have to put in the work to set up and run a garage sale and a community organization gets a donation to help others.
