I don’t know why, but I am really missing the green and purple from my old blog. If you are fairly new to reading here, you can get an idea of the colors by checking out my old blog when it was hosted on Blogger.com. I also miss my header:

Overall, I like the the fonts of the current look and I like the layout. But the green and purple were so cheery to me.

What do you think? Do you like the current blue and gray or do you like the old green and purple?

For readability, I like the blues and grays. But they are a cooler and less exciting tone. The green is quite vivid and energetic, but the old layout wasn’t as easy on the eyes for reading.

But that’s just me. I think fonts make all the difference in the world though. I bet you could use the easy to read typeset you have going on here to a completely different color scheme and achieve the best of both worlds.

  2. Kellie responded:

I think the green and purple design had more personality. I thought it was fine as far as readability. There is nothing about this design that sets it apart from the vast majority of other blogs, so I vote for the old version. :)

  3. c responded:

I think this one is easier to read, but it looks kind of boring, like so many other blogs. Your old colors/design made it stand out, which I like. Either one works for me, just keep the great content coming!

  4. Tricia responded:

Thank you everyone for the comments so far! I like the look of this one, but you are right. It is sort of boring and blah. I feel blah looking at it. The other colors were full of energy. But I was concerned it was too bright and hard to read with the old colors.

  5. Renee responded:

As someone who just started reading your blog, I have to say that the first impressions I got when I visited this site (clean, but slightly boring, maybe technical, not feminine) didn’t match up with the impressions I get when reading your content.

I’d go for the more lively personality that green and purple give. Just keep the interface layout/fonts like they are now.

Also green = money, which can’t hurt :)

  6. Beth responded:

I prefer the vibrancy of the old colors. I think they “match” you better.

  7. Jennifer responded:

I like the colors of the old site. They look way better.

Colors are fairly easy to change in Wordpress though, you just go into the CSS and change the color codes. (If I can do it anyone can!)

  8. Kim L. responded:

I was going to say the same thing .. the older colors were much more you! I don’t recall thinking it was hard to read but I’m sure you could combine this font with the other colors. Maybe put the green and purple around the top and outside but leave the content black and neutral.

  9. Mark Bradford responded:

I like the green header. It looks good.

  10. Julia responded:

I say bring back the purple & green! Then again, I’m very partial to those two colors myself, but I think I prefer them to the blues & grays you’ve got going on here. Plus the font in your old banner is spiffy.

  11. D responded:

    Green to me says “money”
    Purple “peace”

I miss your old colors, they were soo…..You!

  12. Dawn responded:

I liked the green and purple. I think what matters is how it makes you feel.

  13. Matt responded:

Honestly, I like this look. It’s kind of a sophisticated look. And I really like the day calender next to each post. I do think that the main Title font could be a little spiced up, but I like it. The old header is great too.

Either way, I’ll still read it :P

  14. Sheri responded:

I like the green and purple; more “you”.

  15. HC responded:

I prefer the *layout* on this site; it’s cleaner and easier to read (more white space, maybe?). But there’s no reason you couldn’t go back to green and purple with a few color tweaks to this layout.

  16. Susheela responded:

I love your current site in terms of layout and readability, but others are right when they say the green and purple had ‘more personality’ — maybe bring them back, but a bit toned down?

  17. Steve responded:

I’m with the others in liking this new layout, but missing the old colors.

  18. Sure responded:

I like the new one. It looks more professional. Either ways, I will still read the posts :-).

  19. Mark B responded:

I like the old colors, it was more your style, something about the new colors is too standard and professional for what you are doing.

I liked the green and purple, it definitely gave the site a little pop, which isn’t the case with the gray and dark blue hues. I think you should go back…

  22. Shay responded:

I agree I like the vibrant colours of the other blog but this one is so striaght forward. this one is easier to read though then the last one…now if we could figure out how to change the colours here we would be right!

Thank you for such a fantastic blog It has helped me greatly in getting my finaces in order and deal with my debt clutter as I like to call it. though I was no where near where you are in the terms of debt having debts totalling nearly $9000 was scarey to me I am now down to $4987.98 I am so proud of myself and thanks again for the help.

  23. The Shopping Sherpa responded:

I have to say I didn’t even notice the colour change as I read you through Bloglines. You could have parked a small elephant in the corner of your blog and I wouldn’t have noticed! ;-)

  24. Maureen responded:

I personally loved the old colors…..green reminds me of MONEY…which is what we all want to keep in our pockets instead of paying to the credit card companies, right?

  25. shawna responded:

ooh, I like the green better! Of course, when I’m on the internet at work when I shouldn’t be I prefer the duller look :)

  26. Tricia responded:

Thanks everyone for your comments! I contacted the gentleman that designed this theme and I am going to see if he can bring a new theme to life that takes a little bit of this one with a little bit of the old one. Wish us luck! :)

  27. Jeremy responded:

I think Brian will definitely help you out. I had a serious problem with my theme and I sent an email at about 1 AM on a saturday morning and he replied within literally 2 minutes with the code to fix it.

He is awesome and a super nice guy.

  28. zen responded:

If he is unable to help, I may be able to lend a hand. A mix of the new and old will be pretty cool.

  29. Jennifer responded:

Brian will probably help you out. He seems really cool.

If he doesn’t though, I can maybe turn your theme purple and green.

    See ya.
