Karen- I was so glad to hear your positive comments on CHANTIX! I just heard of this drug and have an appointment with my Doctor to get a prescription! My husband was just saying last night that he bought us both a carton of our preferred "coffin nails" at Sam's Club last night and the cost was about $71.00! He goes through about three cartons a month and I go through about five! WOW! I just did the math - that's $248.00 per month or $2,976!! That could go to a lot of debt reduction or one super duper vacation a year. Food for tought...

I just quit Dec 3 and it's worth it.

It's still tough, as it's only been 2 months, but I don't see myself going back.

You must be ready though...

Trish you smoke?

I quit August 2005. It SUCKED. I can't have one ever again or I'll be instantly addicted again.

I don't ever want to go through quitting ever again. It was miserable. I STILL think about it (once in a while).

I agree with Daisy. Nothing will work unless you put the effort, time, and self-motivation behind your cause. I also know that you are very dedicated to getting rid of this debt you have. From my viewpoint, I would consider smoking a useless expense that is hindering my progress towards becoming debt free. Think about how much you could save every month dropping the bud and applying it towards your debt! Also, if you spent oh say, 50/mo on 'rettes, apply that over 12 months for 20 years earning 5.05% (the current rate of many online savings companies) comp. monthly, you'll have 20670!! To me, that is motivation!

Two of my closest friends and I all decided to quit smoking about four years ago. We each ended up using a different method: one went cold turkey, one used the patch, and one went to counseling.

I also dated a guy who worked at a stop-smoking clinic that used laser therapy. He claimed they had a pretty good success rate.

It's definitely difficult; you just have to find the method that works for you. But, I don't think any of them will work unless you are determined to succeed.

Good luck!

Tricia, I made up my mind many months ago that I was going to quit when "they" put that new tax on raising them $1/pack. There is a new drug out called Chantix that has been a miracle for me. I have quit many times in the past (once for 12 years! don't ask....) and have tried the patch, cold turkey, you name it. On this drug I have had no side effects, very few cravings and best of all I can sleep which is the one withdrawel symptom that I usually get. The insomnia compounds the problem when you are irritable and depressed as it is! Supposedly the Chantix works on the nicotine receptors in your brain. It is prescription and is covered by my insurance but no matter what the price, I highly recommend it. I also have to tell you that I think I prepared myself mentally and really psyched myself up to quit as you have been doing, and I think that is a tremendous help. Best of luck to you!
