We actually use our car very little and sometimes it does sit for a few days in the garage. I think I'm going to shoot to get it in every three months, and that will allow a little bit of time just in case I can't get it in right away (I do not like taking cars to quick oil change places). You don't need to change you oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles. That's too excessive unless you really beat the hell out of your car by towing trailers and driving on dirt roads all the time. Why waste that extra money? Every 5,000 miles is adequate for normal city/highway driving, with modern motor oils. I'm not even talking about synthetics. Of course, the oil change places, and the oil companies would love to have you believe every 3,000 miles is the thing to do, just like the gas companies want you to believe the Premium will provide extra performance to your car that is made to run on regular unleaded. My husband and I are not very good at that either. But the car that we bought was a 2000 Honda and they already had synthetic oil in it so we can go about 7 months instead of 3 months althought the cost is about $20.00 more each time but at least we dont have to worry about it as often.
