I am in western Washington state and I am a very frugal shopper. I use coupons, only shop the sales, shop at cheap stores and we spend on average $125 a week plus $250 a month at Costco to feed us. That comes out on average to $750 a month. We are a family of 6 with 1 dog and 4 cats. That price includes everything, food to animal care to paper and medical products. I have a friend who moved from here to Vancouver, WA and she has the same size family as me, and her kids are the same age (2 teens, 2 younger children). They hardly eat out like us, and they spend on average $550 a month. Oh yeah they have animals too who consume about the same as ours. Whenever they come to visit she is sticker shocked in the stores. She can't believe how much more expensive it is! I have family in Missouri and when I was back there a few years ago, I went with my sister to Aldi's. We do not have Aldi's here (I WISH!), and wow the prices in there are incredible! They are my lowest of the year sale prices, if that. They have a family of 4 and spend about $400 a month on groceries, and they do eat out a bit. Geography has much to do with it!
